Born and raised in sunny Los Angeles, Goldie Vargas has been working tirelessly for two years to perfect her forthcoming debut EP. As the 21-year-old looks to create a world where listeners can be entirely themselves, Vargas reels us in with her soothing instrumentals and purely angelic vocals. Before we get to bask in her upcoming collection, Vargas is treating us to an ethereal new single, “Canyon.”
Taking inspiration from the likes of Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell, Vargas penned “Canyon” as a way to turn a heart wrenching break up into a resounding ballad. But not only does Vargas reminisce about this past lover, she also reflects on who she was before meeting that person. As we listen to “Canyon” with our eyes shut, we can’t help but praise Vargas for her crushingly intimate lyricism that somehow leaves us feeling wholesome once again.
On “Canyon,” Goldie Vargas explained,
“‘Canyon’ is about the personal conflict of missing the person you were with and the relationship you once had, but also missing the person you were before you met them. The entire song physically feels, to me at least, like you are running in a field towards yourself trying to get back to your roots. I find it incredibly empowering and self loving, despite being a break up song.”
