Coming an incredibly long way since performing on Chinese Idol at age 15, Emei never quite became recognizable in the American music industry… until now. Having already amassed a considerable following on TikTok, Emei is fully determined to make her music spread across the internet like an uncontrollable wildfire. As Emei continues to make her mark, we’re begging you to lose your mind to her ferocious new single, “That Girl.”
Wavering between alternative pop and rock, “That Girl” speaks to just about every Gen Zer who has tried to show off the ultimate picture-perfect life for TikTok. Between sunrise strolls and perfectly done makeup, Emei relays just how delusional the concept of “That Girl” is. Musically, the energizing percussion and Emei’s unapologetic vocals practically transport us to a rock show where the mosh pit is full of people who are also over the hype of aesthetics.
On “That Girl,” Emei shared,
“[‘That Girl’ was] written on a whim after weeks of trying to keep a habit checklist and failing miserably. The pop rock inspired anthem encapsulates the energy of wanting so badly to be that girl who wakes up at 6 a.m., goes on walks every morning, and drinks coffee black but never getting to that unattainable goal.”
