Verum Gets Brutally Honest in “Break Your Heart”

By Alissa Arunarsirakul // June 21, 2022

2021 was a pivotal year for Verum’s music career because of his viral TikToks, but there’s no doubt in our mind that 2022 will be even more monumental for the 30-year-old rapper. Although he’s now a proud family man living in Santa Barbara, Verum hasn’t lost his touch when it comes to crafting slick bars. As his first release of the year, Verum has released his delightfully playful new single, “Break Your Heart.”

On “Break Your Heart,” Verum shared,

“Losing you was hard… Watching you move on was even harder. All those new memories you were making with him, those were memories you were supposed to be making with me. And eventually I did grow up and I saw all the ways that I failed you… all the reasons you had to go. And I felt happy that you were happy. But before that, I made this.”

If you just listen to the charming pianos and uplifting beats, “Break Your Heart” might sound like a happy-go-lucky tune, but there’s a darker meaning behind Verum’s clever lyricism. Rooted in heartbreak and bitterness, “Break Your Heart” is Verum’s way of recovering from a rough breakup. All that being said, we wouldn’t blame you if you suddenly feel the urge to send this song to your ex…

“Have you ever felt bitter after your ex moved on? Yeah, you see her; she’s got a new man and you try to do the ‘just friends’ thing and tell her that you’re happy for her, but what you really wanna say is… ‘When you tell him that you love him I just hope he break your heart!’”
