Musically influenced by the likes of Gracie Abrams and Holly Humberstone, nicole han is our latest soft pop obsession. Songwriting has been free therapy for this 20-year-old from Orange County for as long as she can remember, and we get to reap the benefits of this beautiful arrangement. With an unmatched ability to resonate with listeners of all ages, han has delivered her heartbreaking new single, “how dare you.”
On “how dare you,” nicole han shared,
“how dare you” encapsulates what it means to be a hopeless romantic while getting hurt by someone that means a lot to you. I wrote this song in my college dorm room, a little while after getting my heart broken. There’s clear exaggeration in this song, but I think there’s some truth in having these extreme feelings of sadness and anger post-heartbreak. I let myself write down every emotion I was feeling and it quickly turned into “how dare you.”
Young love truly is a world’s difference from anything you’ll ever experience, and so is listening to “how dare you.” This gut-wrenching cut hears han’s heartache that makes for a reflective journey through our tumultuous pasts. Sonically, “how dare you” is crafted to perfection with han’s passionate vocals and emotive production.
“My friends say that I’m a lot sassier in my songwriting. I would hope that’s true… I’d like to think that songwriting captures all the words I could never say in real life.”
