It’s not every day we’re blown away by alternative folk, but Gavin Leatherwood accomplishes much more than that. Whether it be acting onstage or on television, Leatherwood has always been quite the creative soul, and now he’s determined to make a name for himself in music. Ready for his second release, Leatherwood is charming us like never before with his delightful new single, “Driftwood Mermaid.”
Decorated with an acoustic twang, “Driftwood Mermaid” perfectly captures Leatherwood’s interesting hangover experience. Leatherwood’s utterly smooth vocals paired with a crescendoing percussion beat astounds us to the point where it’s all we want to hear for the rest of the day. Since Leatherwood is known for his constant exploration and traveling, it’s no surprise that the “Driftwood Mermaid” visual has him fully immersed in the beach’s beauty.
On “Driftwood Mermaid,” Gavin Leatherwood reflected,
“I wrote this song when I was hungover in San Diego after a wedding and missing my ex-girlfriend. I saw a mermaid made out of driftwood and thought, ‘She’ll do.’”
