If you’ve been an avid reader of ours, you’d be well aware of how obsessed we are with morgen. This emerging bedroom pop artist continues to put a smile on our face with her bubbly personality and tasty indie pop sensibilities. Ahead of her forthcoming debut EP, UNACCOMPANIED MINOR, morgen is spoiling us with her new coming-of-age single, “Sweet 16.”
On “Sweet 16,” morgen shared,
“I wrote a song to convince myself that parties and being social sucked because even if I could go out and party, I probably wouldn’t enjoy it. That being said, partying isn’t horrible…all of the time, haha.”
Written the day before morgen’s 16th birthday, “Sweet 16” has the 17-year-old coming to terms with the pandemic taking a toll on her celebratory festivities. In a society where getting drunk every weekend has been considered the norm for teenagers, “Sweet 16” has morgen arguing that partying isn’t as great as it’s made out to be. The accompanying visual is set at a high school party that morgen is obviously not excited to be at… and we don’t blame her for that.
“Love this song so much; it’s truly such a great reminder of the amount of growth that can happen in a year and a few months. When I wrote this song, I was extremely unhappy with myself and the current state of the world (we were at the beginning of quarantine). Little did I know the year following would be one of the most evolutionary parts of my existence so far.”
