Frances Baker Dances in Mistakes with Debut “Bringing Me Down”

By Alissa Arunarsirakul // September 9, 2021

Currently on a UK tour with the one and only Arlo Parks, Frances Baker has been soaking in the ultimate musician lifestyle with only one release to her name. The Nashville native may be an unfamiliar newcomer to you now, but by this time next year, we fully expect her to be dominating the indie pop charts. Making her grand entrance onto our radar, Baker reveals her intoxicating debut single, “Bringing Me Down.”

Whether it be the nostalgic synths or the silky vocals, “Bringing Me Down” is the perfect introduction to Baker’s graceful pop. What’s even more impressive is that Baker actually self-produced and wrote this immaculate cut with only a bit of music production knowledge under her belt. Lyrically, “Bringing Me Down” has Baker assessing a toxic environment and ultimately doing whatever she needs to do to free herself.

On “Bringing Me Down,” Frances Baker explained,

“‘Bringing Me Down’ is the first song I recorded. Self-produced, I started it on Finale Score sequencing software, moved to GarageBand, and finished it in Ableton. This is when Sean (my friend and collaborator) started teaching me about producing, sampling, and recording. This song is about leaving a toxic situation, doing what’s best for you. Dancing in mistakes.”
