Hailing from Arkansas, joan is the indie pop duo we’ll never grow tired of. Comprised of Alan Benjamin Thomas and Steven Rutherford, this rising act continues to send shockwaves across the world with their retro pop reminiscent of the ‘80s. Ready to dominate this year even more than they thrived in 2020, joan is bringing the best vibes with their breezy new single, “so good.”
On “so good,” joan explained,
“For this song, we definitely wanted to take some influence from early 2000s R&B and bring it into today. There’s something about the instrumentation and groove in those songs that really made the subject of love feel really nice and accessible, and we really wanted that to translate in this song. Steven actually did some vocals on this song while he was stuck at home with COVID-19 in the fall, which ended up making it into the song.”
With harp-like sonics and alluring electronics, “so good” will raise your serotonin and dopamine levels like never before. You’ll especially resonate with joan’s lovey dovey lyricism in “so good” if you’ve ever felt an impulsive attraction to a mysterious stranger. If you haven’t already, we highly suggest you add joan to your radar because these charming fellas are about to find themselves at the top of the charts.
“During the pandemic, it felt like there was such a big cloud over the world, and we just kept finding ourselves wanting to write songs to counter that feeling. ‘so good’ was a product of that. It just feels so good (pun intended) to listen to. The song is about feeling like you’re meant to be with someone who just walked in the room. It’s about being around someone that just makes your life feel good. It’s about wishing that person was there your whole life, because you didn’t realize how good it could be. We just wanted to make an expression of that feeling, and it turned into one of our favorite songs we’ve ever written.”
