Jill Blutt Can’t Stop Overthinking in “Breathing in Manual”

By Alissa Arunarsirakul // April 20, 2021

It’s been over a year since we’ve been treated to new material from Jill Blutt, but it’s safe to say her forthcoming releases are certainly well worth the wait. Born, raised, and based in New York City, Blutt has spent the past year of the current pandemic creating stellar tracks that’ll soon see the light of day. Without further ado, we invite you to bask in Blutt’s astounding indie pop melodies with her charming new single, “Breathing in Manual.”

“Breathing in Manual” serves as Blutt’s reflection on her overthinking tendencies and how these overpowering thoughts influence her daily life. The ‘80s-esque synths paired with modern production are absolutely earwormy, and we have to acknowledge Blutt’s pitch perfect vocals. By the end of this introspective cut, we’re itching to know what else Blutt has planned for 2021.

On “Breathing in Manual,” Jill Blutt shared,

“‘Breathing in Manual’ is about the moment of self-awareness when overactive thoughts manifest physically. More broadly, though, this song and project as a whole are about my personal relationship with loneliness and the ways in which that relationship has shifted and evolved over the past year.”
