Mia Nicolai’s “People Pleaser” Is a Hypnotic Anthem for Pushovers

By Alissa Arunarsirakul // April 19, 2021

Born in Amsterdam, Mia Nicolai has always been a curious soul ready to take on the world’s most difficult challenges. Having visited plenty of continents, Nicolai’s love of traveling inspires her moving discography, which will certainly make you fall head over heels in no time. On a mission to brand her own version of pop music, Nicolai returns with a fierce new single, “People Pleaser.”

On “People Pleaser,” Mia Nicolai shared,

“This song is about the journey towards finding yourself. It can be very difficult to be true to your inner values when all you do is please the people around you instead of your inner needs. I’ve always come across as a strong-minded person. But in reality, I’m capable of helping everyone BUT myself. At some point, I felt so uncomfortable in my own skin that I couldn’t even breathe properly.”

For all of you pushovers out there, “People Pleaser” will strike a chord deep within your accommodating soul. Between the bouncy production and otherworldly DIY soundscapes, “People Pleaser” is such a satisfying cut we’ll have on repeat for the foreseeable future. By the end of this hypnotic track, Nicolai is well on her way to learning how to put herself first every now and then–which we should all do from time to time.

“The chorus carries a feeling of ‘it’s all good, and even when it’s not; it’ll all be okay.’ A soft reminder to myself to take it day by day and not expect things to completely change overnight. I feel like it’s something I will be working on my entire life and I don’t mind that ‘cause every day is an opportunity to learn more about my values and needs. Sometimes I struggle sharing them and some days it comes as easy as watching a movie.”
