Honeyboys Fuses Together R&B, Jazz, and Pop in “One Another”

By Alissa Arunarsirakul // March 9, 2021

It hasn’t been long since Honeyboys was just an eager quartet studying at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, but now they’re a genre-bending collective we’re undeniably falling head over heels for. We’ve got to admit that we’re eternally grateful that college wasn’t just about dorm parties and one night stands for the charming fellows of Honeyboys. Now collaborating virtually, Honeyboys manages to spoil us with yet another fantastic new single, “Another One.”

For those of you who’ve been missing your friends and family throughout the current pandemic, Honeyboys will make you feel understood with “Another One.” An alluring fusion of R&B, jazz, and pop, “Another One” whisks us away to an alternate dimension where we’re allowed to embrace our loved ones. Aside from the playful synths and darling falsettos, “Another One” entices us with a sultry saxophone solo fit for the gods.

On “One Another,” Honeyboys explained,

“For a song whose first incarnation was a cyclic R&B beat recorded through a headphone microphone, the chorus lyrics are the constant message that held the song together. Although we added multiple layers to the production as the song progressed, a relatable hook is what generated our initial interest in the song. Now those jazzy instrumental flourishes only serve to reinforce the meaning of togetherness highlighted in the track.”
