If you’re in the mood for some quality left of center pop, Keni is here to deliver exactly what you’re looking for. The 19-year-old is most known for her Hollywood-inspired songwriting, but she’s ready to prove that there’s so much more to her we’ve yet to uncover. With plenty of tricks up her sleeve, Keni is making us crave forbidden love with her edgy new single, “Sid and Nancy.”
On “Sid and Nancy,” Keni explained,
“I always used to take inspiration for my songs from movies and TV shows because I just didn’t think I had any experiences that were worth writing about. When I wrote ‘Sid and Nancy,’ the only thing I knew about love was that I wanted it.”
For those of you who suffer from separation anxiety, “Sid and Nancy” will strike a chord deep within your souls. Layered with soothing strumming atop moody percussion, “Sid and Nancy” showcases Keni’s refreshing vocals, which is unlike anything we’ve heard lately. The accompanying visual has Keni playfully giving a step-by-step presentation on how to fall in love, so whip out your pens and start taking notes.
“The intention with this song was not to romanticize a toxic relationship like the one Sid and Nancy had, but to use that as a metaphor for that obsessive, can’t live without each other type of love that I was desperately seeking during a certain time. This is really the first song I wrote based off personal experience so it’s super special to me.”
