Having lived in China and Thailand, merci, mercy has certainly experienced culture shock like most of us will never face–but it’s these hardships that shape the Australian newcomer’s songwriting. With music serving as her therapy, merci, mercy pens songs based on her personal life and observations that make for interesting stories. If you haven’t already added her to your radar, merci, mercy’s new single “Something You Like” will convince you to do so immediately.
Of all the songs on her forthcoming EP, no thank you, no thanks, “Something You Like” is the one that came out the most naturally for merci, mercy, and it really confirms just how talented this 19-year-old is. Layered with charming alternative pop sonics and merci, mercy’s alluring vocals, “Something You Like” narrates the long overdue conclusion of a toxic relationship. Once again, Bianca Bosso has created a fantastic “Something You Like” visual that incorporates vibrant colors and animated versions of merci, mercy.
On “Something You Like,” merci, mercy shared,
“This song really poured out of me and was the easiest one to write on the EP. The song was written from observing toxic relationships and seeing how someone can change you without you realizing. It’s my go to song to play whenever I pick up my uke.”
