If you’re in the mood for some unique alternative pop, Tally Spear is here to deliver. The London singer embodies the tenacity of a seasoned musician, but she’s still got plenty of tricks up her sleeve. To introduce you to this ferocious newcomer, Spear invites you to join her world of red with her impeccable debut EP, Tally.
On Tally, Tally Spear shared,
“Thanks SO much for listening and streaming my EP and for all the kind words and messages! It honestly means the whole world.”
To celebrate the release of her new music, we recently chatted with Tally Spear about the color red, hard-hitting choruses, and of course, Tally.
HH: You’re bringing such strong alternative vibes to the pop genre, and we’re living for it! What inspires this ambition of yours?
TS: I love music with a specific energy. I’m always listening out for music that combines pop with something fierce, a bit darker, moodier, or different. So I guess I try to create the type of music I know I want to listen to. Would I listen to this? Would I enjoy this in a live show? I’m always asking myself these things so I can make sure I’m making music that’s really ME.
HH: How does it feel to finally have your debut EP out in the world?!
TS: I think it perfectly represents me at this exact moment of my life, musically and lyrically. So therefore I’m really happy it’s out in the world, at this exact time.
HH: Tally opens with “What Do I Want,” which makes it nearly impossible to not listen to the entire EP. What’s your secret to crafting memorable songs?
TS: Oh, thank you so much! Hitting hard in a chorus is my ‘secret’ I can’t write without. I’m a sucker for a chorus that takes us somewhere exciting, so I really am conscious about trying to make that happen in every single track I write.
HH: “Already Gone” and “Can’t Find What I’m Looking For” gave your fans a tiny taste of what to expect from Tally, but you’ve given us that and more! What has the response been to the EP so far?
TS: The responses from people online have been so generous and amazing – it’s such a joy to connect with ‘strangers’ through music. When I receive a message from someone I’ve never met before, saying they’ve heard the record and love it, it really just reminds me why I’m doing what I do. Connecting with people all over the world is the best.
HH: What about the color red speaks to you? What’s been your favorite red outfit?
TS: Red is the color of passion, love, frustration, power. It represents strong emotions and feelings from across the whole spectrum. I feel so much more powerful when I’m wearing the color red too – my fav red outfits were worn during the 1883 Magazine shoot I did for the Tally EP, styled by Martina Ghia: https://1883magazine.com/tally-spear/
HH: If you could have anyone in the music industry be your mentor, who would you pick?
TS: MILEY.
HH: What are your three hidden hits?
TS: “Stoned and Alone” – Findlay. “Bad” – Blithe. “Worst Enemy” – Evie Irie.
