Where do we even begin with the mastermind that is Troi Irons? Not only does she write and produce her own music, but she has single-handedly sparked a revival of the alternative genre. Ahead of her forthcoming sophomore album, FLOWERS, Irons is blessing us with a new single, “Thorns.”

On “Thorns,” Troi Irons explained,

“There’s a scripture where Paul mentions a thorn in his side, this constant torment. That’s where I am now. The things I feel now and the things I was taught growing up – they don’t line up. It’s like a constant war in my head and I’m not even sure what ‘winning this battle’ looks like.”

Opening immediately with Irons’ airy vocals, “Thorns” sets a rather dark mood we’re absolutely living for. As Irons compares a bible scripture to the never ending cycle of life that entails guilt, fear, and denial, “Thorns” sends us to a frenzy of rage as we analyze the current world state. By the end of “Thorns,” we’re left feeling so impressed by Irons’ ability to hold absolutely nothing back when it comes to music.

“I think a lot of people have a similar kind of war. There’s that cycle of the feelings then the guilt, the fear, some denial. Not really sure what to do with that cycle. So here’s me purging it [on] the paper.”
