Not only is 2020 the year of countless tragedies, but it’s also a time of growth–especially for LØLØ. The rising Toronto pop star has discovered a more alternative side to her previous bubble gum pop sound, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for this new LØLØ era. As she continues to experiment, LØLØ delivers her edgy new single, “Hate U.”
On “Hate U,” LØLØ noted,
“Human nature has always got us thinking about things we want, and know we can’t have… why are we like this? There’s nothing more worse than trying to ignore those feelings, especially when you’ve fallen for someone you’re not supposed to fall for. We blame it on the universe and shitty timing. We blame late nights and too much alcohol.”
“Hate U” may not embody the same kind of sweetheart pop we’ve always loved from LØLØ, but it’s so much better in too many ways to count. A breakup anthem at its finest, “Hate U” has LØLØ finally recognizing that some things really aren’t meant to be. Between the dramatic plucks and stirring electronics, “Hate U” offers a very much welcomed side of LØLØ.
“In the end, we’re just looking for a bandage–anything to make us feel better about it. In my situation, I wanted to feel something with this person, but love just wasn’t an option, so the only thing left to do was to channel all those feelings into absolutely hating them, and convincing myself that what I was feeling was never love in the first place. ‘Hate U’ is the anthem for all us sorry suckers that never end up getting what we want.”
