Phangs’ “When I’m All Alone” Video Reminds Us of Our Childhood

By Alissa Arunarsirakul // July 2, 2020

This isn’t the first time we’re sharing new music from Phangs, and it certainly won’t be the last. The Nashville artist has an indescribable talent for producing the most engaging synth pop we can’t get enough of. As if he doesn’t spoil us enough already, Phangs is treating us to a stellar new single, “When I’m All Alone.”

On “When I’m All Alone,” Phangs shared,

“‘When I’m All Alone’ is a song that could mean several things to different people. When I wrote it, I was in Los Angeles and I was Zooming from meeting, to co-write, to acoustic session, etc. and I remember having a moment at Bonnie McKee’s home, where I finally felt like I could breathe for a second. I realized, as we started writing the song, how much I actually value having those moments where I can breathe and feel what I need to.”

Fully soaked in loveable synths and pure joy, “When I’m All Alone” celebrates solitude at its finest. To no surprise, Phangs’ charisma shines right through this dancey track, and if you’re a major introvert, “When I’m All Alone” will likely be your brand new anthem. The accompanying video features a Phangs action figure that joins a young boy on thrilling adventures, but watch until the end for an unexpected surprise…

“For me, personally, the song is about being able to take the time that you need in order to celebrate yourself, in your own way–whether that’s by dancing, crying, writing, or even just sitting alone. It’s important. Even when it’s not a forced quarantine, haha. On the flip side, this song was also written as a realization that being single is actually really empowering.”
