STRUAN Predicted the Fate of His Relationship with “Over You”

By Alissa Arunarsirakul // June 16, 2020

If you’ve never heard of STRUAN, we’re more than pleased to introduce you to this rising indie pop mastermind. Coming onto the scene in 2018 and collaborating with countless artists since then, STRUAN is the multifaceted artist who knows no limits. Without further ado, do yourself a favor and bask in the bittersweetness of his infectious new single, “Over You.”

On “Over You,” STRUAN reflected,

“Sometimes I find that I write songs that later come true. My friend Oren and I were in LA on his rooftop when the chorus just came out whole. It felt really cathartic but I didn’t know what it was about. Shortly thereafter I broke up with my then-girlfriend. Maybe the chorus was subconscious and I knew deep down I was going to end things with her and felt conflicted about it.”

Relationships can be complicated, but breakups can oftentimes be completely unbearable. As he thought back on his ended relationship, STRUAN wrote “Over You” as a cathartic approach to admitting his overwhelming feelings. Between the upbeat electronics and genuine lyricism, new music from STRUAN can’t come soon enough.

“The rest of the song came while I was in a phase of running away from the fallout and all the friends I’d lost through the breakup. I literally almost moved to Mexico City to live with a buddy for a few months. I was on a layover in New York on my way to London and found myself literally stumbling through Manhattan with a buddy from high school and I remember thinking, ‘What the hell am I doing?’ I’m way too drunk, and I’m not having any fun right now.”
