Emily Vu may have 1.4 million TikTok followers, but her infectious music is most certainly underrated. The 18-year-old is a trained pianist and guitarist, and she’s more than ready to dominate the rising pop world with her undeniable charisma. If you’re curious to know why there’s so much hype around Vu, look no further than her stunning new single, “WEEKEND.”
On “WEEKEND,” Emily Vu shared,
“My producer friend SZNS and I were in a session and going through YouTube beats for inspiration and we came across a really pretty guitar beat and decided to recreate it. At the time I was going through a little heartbreak myself so writing the lyrics was fairly easy.”
Co-produced by Sir Nolan (Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez) and SZNS, “WEEKEND” is drizzled with Vu’s silky vocals and atmospheric production throughout. “WEEKEND” hears Vu’s frustration as she writes about being ghosted by someone she genuinely caught feelings for. The accompanying visual has Vu reflecting on the ended relationship through nostalgic polaroids and tin can telephones.
“I wrote this after a heartbreak. I tend to write from experience and this was definitely one of those songs. I had been talking to someone for not that long, but long enough to catch feelings, and they ended up leaving. No goodbye, no warning, just gone by the weekend.”
