JXST J is the latest newcomer joining our radar as he just recently made his musical debut. Crafting songs from his bedroom, JXST J fuses together elements of lo-fi, vaporwave, and pop to create his unique soundscapes. Without further ado, feel free to familiarize yourself with JXST J’s incredible debut single, “Like U Used 2.”
On “Like U Used 2,” JXST J explained,
“I wrote ‘Like U Used 2’ right in the middle of a bad breakup. I remember going on a walk while it was all happening and getting this thought stuck in my head: ‘you say you don’t love me like you used to, and that’s gonna take some getting used to.’ It became a mantra for me as I started to heal. It’s a melancholic thought, but ultimately it led me to a better place.”
“Like U Used 2” features enchanting chimes and airy synths that were crafted to perfection. As the Los Angeles producer-singer reflects on a painful breakup, he also recognizes that he’ll need to move on at some point. The accompanying visual follows JXST J as he develops a friendship with a lovable sea creature on the shores of Hawaii, which ends up helping him through the difficult breakup.
“For me, this video speaks to that impulsive vacation you book for yourself after a bad breakup. You fly somewhere tropical, it’s a bit lonely but then you jump in the ocean, you make a new friend, and slowly but surely a new chapter begins.”
