We’re pleased to announce that indie rock is absolutely thriving with the generous help of Breakup Shoes. Comprised of Nick Zawisa, John MacLeod, and Matthew Witsoe, Breakup Shoes hails from Arizona, but their guitar driven tracks are heard throughout the world. As the Tempe band embarks on their cross country tour with Summer Salt and Okey Dokey, they’re spoiling us with a dreamy new single, “Last Date.”

On “Last Date,” frontman Nick Zawisa shared,

“Romance doesn’t occur in a vacuum where the only consideration is pure connection. There are often external forces–such as approval of friends and family or work commitments that can dictate the outcome of a relationship. In my case, the culprit was distance.”

As Zawisa explained, relationships can be heavily impacted by outside factors you’ve never even considered. With this in mind, we’re blown away by Breakup Shoes’ ability to juxtapose such a melancholic message with uplifting instrumentals. By the end of “Last Date,” all we want to do is take a long drive where the road never ends as this hook driven track plays in the background.

“It can be hard to come to terms with a breakup caused by something outside of your control, especially when it isn’t caused by lack of connection and this song is about the feelings of inadequacy and questions of “what if?” that arose after a really lovely fling came to an untimely end.”
