Having spent his life between Southern California and Ghana, Moses Sumney has always been a mysterious fella. He’s known for curating technicolor videos while rocking monochromatic outfits and fusing together what some call art rock and black classical. As he prepares to release the first half of his two-part album, græ, Sumney offers “Cut Me” as the fourth intriguing single.

Sumney fully understands the detriment behind learning things the hard way, and it’s this very masochism that he discusses in “Cut Me.” With a powerful falsetto, Sumney sweeps us off our feet as his sultry voice is later joined by a tip-toe piano arrangement and striking brass. The “Cut Me” lyric video screams blood red as wavering lines occasionally morph into Sumney’s upper half.

On “Cut Me,” Moses Sumney shared,

“‘Cut Me,’ my tribute to soul and self-flagellation, is out everywhere now.”
